Suicide must no longer continue to be the silent epidemic, so we cannot remain quiet anymore! In 2020, according to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), 45,979 people died by suicide in the United States.
What we all need to know about Suicide is that it remains a serious public health problem, which has lasting harmful effects on individuals, families, as well as communities. The risk of suicide does not discriminate, people of any age, race, ethnicity, or sex can experience suicide risk. However, we do know that certain groups have substantially higher rates of suicide than the general U.S. population (13.9 per 100,000).
These ‘at-risk’ groups which disproportionately experience factors linked to suicide include veterans, those who live in rural areas, sexual/gender minorities, middle-aged adults, as well as tribal populations.
